Reporting racist incidents to the police

Racism is a crime. Any incident which is perceived to be racist by the victim or any other person is considered to be a racist incident by the police. It is the job police to prevent racist crime, provide support to victims and to secure justice.

It is also important that racist incidents are reported and recorded so that the rate of racist crime can be monitored and wider action be taken against racism.

Victim Support charity

Victims of crime are entitled to free, confidential advicce from a charity called Victim Support. The charity is an independent national body with staff and volunteers who are trained to provide victims with free emotional support and practical assistance, including:
. someone to talk to in confidence
. advice on victims' rights
. information on police and court procedures
. advice about compensation and insurance
. links to other sources of help like counselling

Anyone affected by crime can contact Victim Support for help, regardless of whether they've reported the crime to the police or how long ago the crime took place.

Citizen’s Advice Bureau
The online CAB service that provides independent advice on your rights and how to take action against racist discrimination and racisally and religiously motivated attacks.
